Every Remote Workers' Dream App
━
Explore a new cafe while you work
Case Study #2
FlipTable
Think about what it's like to walk into a cafe feeling guilt-free as you intend to be there for hours to work remotely. Knowing the availability of power sockets in the cafe and with accessible Wifi provided for you.
This is what FlipTable does, it is a Mobile Application that act as a bridge to provide curated information of cafes that allow remote workers to work at. It is also a platform that allow cafe owners to establish their stance on being acceptive towards customers working in their cafe or not. By opening up to remote workers, the business can generate revenue with their existing resources like available seats during off-peak hours.
Not only does it benefits the remote workers and acceptive cafe owners, it will also direct remote workers away from cafe owners who discourage remote working in their cafe as it does not align with their business model.

Project Timeline
How it all started?
We were given an opportunity to collaborate with the Software Engineers for our third project to develop a digital solution to a physical problem, known as FlipTable.
From our research and validation from the Live TV News on MediaCorp Channel 8, we discovered that there is a growing market of users and businesses needs to work remotely from cafes.
We want to know more, therefore we kept digging for articles and that's where the magic happens.
Let's see what's happening in the current market!

My team hopped onto our desk research to understand the existing gaps and issues in the market.
From a recent article by The Straits Times, it validates that the rise of Office Rental and falling of Retail Rents has resulted in an increase of remote workers.
This has opened our eyes to a bigger picture and discovering potential solution and opportunities for a unique market to grow.
Oops, we jump the gun!
We came up with our initial hypothesis thinking that all cafe would be open to this idea of remote working.
"We can solve the problem with a B2B2C model which enables remote workers to reserve and pay for a seats at cafes, while providing cafe owners with the opportunity to generate revenue."
But don't worry!
We've back tracked and have a chat with our users first!
We went cafe-hopping to talk to both remote workers and cafe owners with 2 sets of interview questions to understand more from their perspective. Through the interview with a cafe owner, we realised that not all cafes are acceptive towards remote workers as this is not their business model to begin with, therefore this gave us an opportunity to refine our hypothesis even better!
User Persona
After diving into the problem, we created a user persona that provides a reliable and realistic representations of my key user for reference.

Here comes our Win-Win Solution!
" We can solve the problem with a B2B2C model that connects remote workers with cafes that provide a conducive workspace, while providing cafe businesses with the right exposure to their target audience. "
So what sets us apart?
Our Unique Value Proposition
First-of-its-kind Product
There are no similar apps in the local market
Current work-from-cafe information is not consolidated and insufficient to provide remote-workers with the appropriate expectations.
No platform that considers the needs from both perspectives (businesses and users)
Capitalise on Remote Working Culture
Self-employed workers cannot afford high rental and lease fees of co-working spaces
FlipTable caters to a unique and growing market
Remote workers looking for a change in work environment
Businesses that are looking to maximise their available space

My takeaways from this project
This project gave me an opportunity to get a glimpse of how design assets handover to Software Engineer is like. I feel a sense of achievement and pride in the work my team have done.
I learnt that we should not jump into assumption without getting the facts right, and having the validation from factual feedback and research help set a strong foundation to justify why we do what we did.
All in all, it was a enjoyable experience to look forward the product we design come to live with the help of the Software Engineers!
IT'S A WRAP!
So that's pretty much it! This was me working with my awesome team to develop a Mobile Application.
Thank you for reading!
